For about four years and four crop seasons, I have been involved in Bt cotton research and development of the company apart from other crops. Since 2004, I was actively involved in planning and organization of GM cotton regulatory trials viz., RCGM/MLT and LST field trials as per the protocols of RCGM and GEAC. In recent times, plans were on to expand the role of technical services to encompass other areas of product development. Organized training to the field staff for maintaining the Bt. Cotton trials and collection of data as per the protocols. Involved in the development of strategies for the production of BG II hybrids, strip tests and seed increase. Convened need based IBSC meetings to obtain relevant approvals for forwarding relevant proposals to GEAC/RCGM. Management of field trials organized with good standards while following the GEAC/RCGM prescribed regulations. Planned and organized domestic field trials in collaboration with personnel in the field trial coordinators. Supervising the preparation of protocols and field notebooks, identify, train and upgrade the quality of on-site coordinators. Making sure the objectives and time lines are followed with overall quality assurance. Supervised the internal audit of sample and data collection activities as per the timelines. Finalizing the reports of coordinators, incorporating the summarized data and interaction with cross functional groups. Attending to the regulatory affairs of the company with proper compliance to the prescribed guidelines. Communicate with appropriate regulatory personnel from time to time so as to get relevant approvals. Net working with SAU and ICAR and researchers, managers and other field staff personnel for smooth conduct of all trials with elite/promising cotton hybrids and other crops. Has been able to takeup additional responsibilities from time to time so as to meet the business goals of the company.

For some time supervised the research on several crops like cotton, rice, millets, vegetables etc. I have supervised and conducted research on various agricultural pests, especially the pests of palms and plantation crops. Main emphasis was on the development and use of IPM methods. During my career several problems were solved and bio-rational methods of control were advocated for the benefit of farming community. Actively participated and contributed in the decision making bodies of various public and private sector bodies.

Teaching duties

  • For seven years taught Zoology/Entomology to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Taken classes mainly on applied entomology (1971-78).
  • Taken classes on the IPM of plantation crops for extension workers of state agriculture/horticulture departments under various extension programmes.
  • Involved in drafting new courses on plant protection for vocational training at the national level (CBSE).
  • Expected to take a few guest classes apart from research duties, in my Plant Protection Department of King Saud University.
